RG2E Featured Author Stacey Joy Netzel on Her Favorite Reader Comment “I Wish It Were Longer…”

Happy Monday, RG2E Peeps!

For an author, nothing beats knowing our readers are really loving our books and want more.

Here’s RG2E Featured Author Stacey Joy Netzel on that very thing…

SJN Author photo

“I wish it were longer…”

As an author, those are words I love to hear. It means the reader wanted more. They loved the book, but didn’t want it to end so they could continue to spend time with their new ‘friends.’ Not to be confused with “The story ended too soon,” which many times means the reader wasn’t satisfied with the way the story ended.

I have a shorter story that has received both these responses. The readers who wish for more usually leave a great review. The ones who say it ended too soon, well…not so much. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and this is not to complain about the readers who expected more. I am sorry if I let them down.

The thing is for me, when I wrote the final sentence for that story, it was done. My characters were on their way to their Happily Ever After (HEA), and there was nothing left to tell. Forcing more wouldn’t have satisfied me, or any of my readers.

Then came my story Beneath Still Waters (Part One), in the Tales From The Mist anthology.

Tales_From_the_Mist_cover - final

An old legend tells of a beautiful witch unjustly persecuted who became a ghost bent on revenge…

The danger lies in not believing.

On a sorority camping trip in the Colorado Rocky Mountain National Park, Becca scoffs at the story of the Ghost of Still Waters, despite the convictions of her fellow campers, Liz and Shane. When Liz challenges her to summon the witch’s spirit, will Becca’s disbelief seal her fate?

Amazon, Amazon UK, BN, ARe, Kobo, SW, Goodreads

I was writing to a word count limit, but the closer I got to 8,000 words, the more antsy I got, because I could feel there was no way the characters’ story would truly be finished to my satisfaction within that limit. But I really wanted to be part of the wonderful collaboration of stories, so I wrapped BSW up, and then decided to write a sequel.

Rising Above (Still Waters Part Two) took me by surprise, too. What I’d expected to be about 15,000 words morphed into 35,000 before the characters stopped ‘talking’ and I could give them the ending they’d earned. And you know what…there’s still the remote possibility that one of the characters from this series will start talking to me in the future.

If she does, there will be a Still Waters (Part Three).

In the meantime I’d love to offer five ebook copies of Tales From The Mist today. Hopefully you’ll WISH Beneath Still Waters was longer and pick up a copy of Rising Above (Still Waters Part Two).

Rising_Above_ebook_cover_1333x2000

Imagine you’ve lived before, but don’t remember or believe it’s even possible. Therein lies the danger. For in not believing and learning from your pasts, the power shifts to the one who would see you dead. Again.

Ryan James never gave much thought to ghosts or the idea of reincarnation—until the appearance of the beautiful Ali Whitman triggers terrifying visions that feel like real life. As he pieces together their past lives, he discovers they aren’t the only players. Worse, if he can’t convince Ali to believe before their past adversary makes the next move, he’ll lose her all over again.

Amazon, BN, Apple, ARe, Kobo, SW

And now, my question for you lovely readers: Do you more often find yourself wishing a story were longer, or thinking it ended too soon?

Let me know in the comments, along with your email address, and I’ll draw 5 winners for a download of the Tales From The Mist ebook.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Bestselling Romantic Comedy Author Alicia Street talks “I Heart Valentine’s Day”

Happy Hump Day, RG2E Peeps!

We’re starting our Valentine’s Day Celebration a wee bit early here at The RG2E with the help of one of my fave authors and good friends – Bestselling Romantic Comedy Author Alicia Street.

Take it away, Alicia…

6a7b3e93eee20ad8986c73.L._V160550698_SX200_

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, a special day for those of us who love romance. J Aside from wondering what my DH might give me, I can’t help dreaming about how the sweethearts in the Dance ‘n’ Luv contemporary romance series might celebrate.

I would guess Parker, gardener supreme, would make a gorgeous heart of roses for Tanya. And maybe his sister Casey would challenge the cocky wiseguy Drew to another ping-pong match, only this time sans clothing. I can see Amanda and Russ staying cozy by a fire in his fisherman’s bungalow. And Jenna and Aiden would take in a show and do the town in NYC.

If you haven’t yet met these couples yet, in the series, I’ve put the Dance ‘n’ Luv Contemporary Romance Boxed Set at a special price. Plus I’ll be giving one away today!

And since I invited some author friends to chime in on what their characters might be up to for Valentine’s Day, you’ll also have a chance to either buy at a sale price or win a free copy of the books listed below!

To start off, we’ve got three Valentine themed ebooks! Christy Hayes’s Good Luck, Bad Timing & When Harry Met Sally, Sheila Seabrook’s The Valentine Grinch and Kristine Cayne’s Un-Valentine’s Day.

Let’s start with Good Luck, Bad Timing & When Harry Met Sally by Christy Hayes. How would your story sweethearts celebrate?

Slide1

Christy: The couple from my stand-alone short story met on Valentine’s Day so this holiday would also be their anniversary. As New York City residents, Celia and David would probably venture to Madison Square Garden to take in a hockey game if one were scheduled for Valentines. If not hockey, perhaps basketball since that is Celia’s favorite sport. They would then go to the pizza restaurant where they shared their first meal and end the night as David would have preferred on their first unofficial date: wrapped in each other’s arms.”

Sheila: They’re going to Grandma Elvira’s wedding — which is giving them both a few wedding ideas of their own. :-)

In Kristine Cayne’s novelette, Un-Valentine’s Day, her heroine is also set against this lovers’ holiday. How come?

Kristine: Cassie, the heroine, hates the sappy romantic holiday because the previous year, instead of getting a Valentine’s Day proposal from her now ex-boyfriend, she caught him cheating. But Noah is determined to give her the best, most unexpected Valentine’s Day ever. Cassie doesn’t know what to expect, but it certainly isn’t the day of testosterone-laden activities and the revelation that there is more to cute-but-more-than-a-little-nerdy Noah. Much more.

Chicki: Private time is at a minimum for Vaughn and Trenyce. Both of them treasure time away from the hustle and bustle of Tinseltown and the prying eyes of the paparazzi. Since Trenyce has lived most of her life inland, she has an absolute fetish for the ocean. Vaughn and Trenyce’s perfect Valentine’s Day would be a trip to a secluded island retreat where no one recognizes him.  A beautiful retreat in Fiji fits the bill perfectly.

Then there’s Zach and Sadie in Stacey Joy Netzel’s More Than A Kiss

MoreThanaKiss_B_300x450

Stacey: As the owner of MovieMail in California, Zach is well connected. He surprised Sadie with tickets to Trent Tomlin’s new romantic comedy movie premiere, so they will spend an evening amongst the stars. After the premiere, they’ll take a long walk on the beach.

And I am definitely up for the kind of Valentine gift cooked up by MJ, Diana Layne’s hero from Trust No One.

30860ed51ad2241b2f9afb2a2ffdfd5e

Diana: Retired from the dangerous world of espionage, MJ Thornberg and Ben Walker live a quiet life in small town Texas where they own an auto repair shop. Since MJ’s the mechanic, Ben is sneaking away from the office to enlist the help of Dottie, best cook this side of the Red River, to make MJ a down home meal of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas, collard greens and cornbread. Plus, he’s making MJ a decadent chocolate-layer cake all by himself.  (Wonder what the kitchen is going to look like when he’s finished?) The question is, will MJ be able to work the next day or will she be in a food-induced coma and have to close down shop to stay home–in bed with Ben?

The food factor also comes into play for the sweethearts in Nana Malone’s Sultry in Stilettos.

Sultry In Stilettos_Romantic Comedy_Contemporary romance_2000

Nana: Since Beckett and Ricca are such a new couple, they’d spend a quiet night alone. Ricca knows the way to Beckett’s heart is through his…. stomach, so she’d make him all his Trinidadian favorites, in particular Callaloo. And Beckett, knowing his woman is so busy taking care of others that she barely has time for herself, would spend the day pampering her. Massage, nails, hair, the works. She wouldn’t have to leave the house or lift a finger for anything. He’d be her personal manservant.

So if you’d like to win one of the giveaway books, tell us your version of a romantic Valentine’s Day. And be sure to include which book you’d want and your email.

Wishing you a lovely and lovable Valentine’s Day!

RG2E Featured Author Stacey Joy Netzel on “Character Crossover in Series”

Happy Monday, RG2E Peeps!

As many of you know, I luuuvvv to do what I call cross-pollination with my characters. In other words, I take my readers’ fave characters and write them into all of my series. For example, once you’ve met and laughed with my Mom Squad blue-haired Charlie’s Angels in The Bootscootin’ Books, you’ll also enjoy their antics in my Cozy Cash Mysteries and my Stuck with a Series Books.

Here’s one of my fave authors – Stacey Joy Netzel – who’s also doing this across her bestselling series…

SJN Author photo

Series books seem to be a favorite among readers (and writers—I know I LOVE revisiting ‘old’ friends from previous books), so I got to thinking, if an author has two well-liked series, what could be more fun than having a character from one series pop up to interact with a character from the other series? Or even multiple characters.

I write the Welcome to Redemption series (WTR) with my good friend and critique partner, Donna Marie Rogers. We’re up to six books, with 7 & 8 due out any day. For sure by the end of the week! We each write our own book, connecting them through the town, previous characters, and a shared scene told from our own characters’ point of view. But due to other obligations, we won’t have a chance to add to this series for at least another year, and I’m going to miss the residents of our small close-knit Wisconsin town.

RedemptionBoxedSet_ereader (2)

AmazonBNSW

Well, I also write the Romancing Wisconsin series (RW), set in the real town of Pulaski, WI, which just happens to neighbor our fictional town of Redemption. Convenient, right? Since I WILL be writing two additional books for this series in 2013, I have decided to pull in a few of my WTR characters to interact with my RW characters. A win for me, and hopefully a win for readers.

RWV1 Cropped Boxed 3D 600 wide 300dpi

AmazonBNKoboApple

I’m sure this isn’t my unique, genius idea, so tell me if you’ve read any authors who do this from one series to another?

For those of you who haven’t read either/both series yet, just for commenting today, I’ll draw for two winners of the ebook WTR boxed set, and two winners of the ebook RW boxed set. After you’re done reading and find the crossover character, you can enter to win your choice of a signed copy of one of my print books!

“Wait, how do I win a print book??” you ask.

If you’ve read both of these series already, or once you do, there is one WTR character who’s already very briefly been mentioned in the RW series. I’ll pick a winner for a signed PRINT book from my backlist from all who email me the correct character name to StaceyJoyNetzel (at) gmail (dot) com. Contest ends Jan. 31st, 2013.

And don’t forget, books 7 & 8 in the Welcome to Redemption series will be out by Friday!

Amazon US     Amazon UK     Barnes & Noble     Kobo     Smashwords

Wicked cover, right? As you can see, best-selling author Aiden James wrote the foreword for us. So very cool of him. :-) Thank you, Aiden!

The authors featured in this book are members of the WG2E Street Team and I am honored to be included among such talented writers. We’ve been working for months on this project. It’s been hard work, but fun and exciting too. I’ve learned so much from each of the other authors and am grateful for their support and encouragement.

Back of the cover blurb:

TALES FROM THE MIST will take you on a journey into the dark world of the paranormal. These twelve stories vary in their degree of horror, yet all reach across the boundaries of their genres into the chilling realms of the macabre. Witches, ghosts, shape-shifters and vampire rats are some of the creatures that reign within these pages.

Reviews:

From TW Brown, author of Dead: The Ugly Beginning: “To have a collection assembled by such a talented group of authors makes this THE anthology to own if you are a fan of horror.”

Joe McKinney, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Flesh Eaters and Mutated: “Tales From The Mist is one of those rare anthologies that gets it right from the first story to the last. It’s a magnificent feast of horror from some of the most assured voices working today. From cold-blooded tales of revenge to Faustian bargains to terrifying journeys into the dark corners of our world, these stories will make the shivers climb your back.”

You can find more in-depth reviews of the book at the following:

“Why Buy a Christmas Book Now?” RG2E Featured Author Stacey Joy Netzel has the Answers

Happy Sunday, RG2E Peeps!

Welcome to The RG2E and/or Welcome Back!

“Why Buy a Christmas Book Now?”

Here’s the fabulous scoop from RG2E Featured Author Stacey Joy Netzel.

Take it away, Stacey…

10 Great Logical Valid Reasons to Buy a Christmas Book Now

It’s that time again—the kids are barely back in school, bikini’s are on sale, and sparkly, jingle bell-y decorations have taken over the store shelves. Songs meant to be played AFTER Thanksgiving flow from the loudspeakers, driving us insane because all they do is remind us we don’t have enough time before the holiday to get everything we want done done AND clean the house.

So forget it. Grab yourself a cup of tea, coffee, wine—whatever trips your trigger—and snuggle in your favorite reading spot with my a good book. You shouldn’t need an excuse, but if someone does question you, feel free to use any of the following reasons to explain why you bought a Christmas book now.

  1. Beat the rush. In a few months everyone will be doing it and you can then brag that YOU started the craze.
  2. Everyone else is doing it—you don’t want to get left behind, do you?
  3. Santa Butch is making his list and checking it twice. If he sees you’re in the spirit, he’ll make sure you Match-Up on the right side.
  4. It’s cheap. (Well, my book is anyway. Mistletoe Mischief $0.99 at Amazon, BN, Apple, ARe, Kobo, SW)
  5. Hey, look at that—you matched your shoes today! I say you’re on a roll and buying my a Christmas book will only make your day better.

(Hold on…you checked your shoes, didn’t you?)

  1. Oranges are orange. (This reason is really quite self-explanatory.)
  2. Heartwarming stories are perfect ANY time of the year.
  3. When someone catches you under the Mistletoe you can create a bit of Mischief. (Tell them about the great Christmas book you read—what’d you think I meant?)
  4. M&M’s melt in your mouth, not in your hands. It’s pure Magic.
  5. The song “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas,” makes you want to drop-kick the plastic reindeer in the store, but if you buy a great Christmas book now, it’ll help  relieve your stress, thus keeping you out of Mischief.

If any one of those reasons made you smile, laugh, roll your eyes, throw up, check your shoes, or cry, then it’s very important you don’t waste any time—get your copy of Mistletoe Mischief right away. Toads everywhere will be happy and so will I. (Read the book and you’ll understand.)

Christmas in July at the zoo is the last place single parents Eric Riley and Marissa Wilder expect to find love. Thanks to some mistletoe mischief in the form of their two young daughters and Santa, they discover mistletoe rules were not made to be broken.

You do remember it’s cheap, right? (The price, not the book! Seriously, the book was part of the Mistletoe Rules anthology that won the 2010 Write Touch Readers’ Award.)

Now it’s YOUR turn, RG2E Peeps. Get creative with your reasons to buy Christmas books now and I’ll gift up to 10 ebook copies of my other Christmas story, Dragonfly Dreams. But you have to work for it, sorry.

Forced to sell precious family heirlooms to pay for her mother’s cancer medications, Loral Evans swallows her pride when handsome antique dealer Jake Coburn offers her one thousand dollars for a dragonfly brooch they both know is fake. She simply can’t afford to walk away.

On the brink of bankruptcy, Jake is taking a huge risk on Loral’s costume jewelry. Then again, it’s Christmas, and he hasn’t been able to resist her since the first time she entered his shop. When he discovers new information about the brooch’s connection to the Titanic, Jake’s attempt to do the right thing just might cost him his business and a future with Loral.

What? You thought I’d give away Mistletoe Mischief? It’s only $0.99. Dragonfly Dreams is $2.99. See how I did the math for you? You buy cheap, I give high.

You’re welcome. Now go get your copy of of Mistletoe Mischief (a Christmas in July story) and Merry Christmas!

I fell in love with books at a young age, so for me the graduation to writing them was natural. An avid reader and fan of movies with a happily ever after, I am thrilled to call myself a full-time writer after 20 years as a travel agent. I write romantic suspense, contemporary romance, and the occasional paranormal short story just for fun.
