RG2E Peeps: Let’s Show our Love for RG2E Featured Author Gordon Kirkland, Who’s Waiting for a Liver Transplant

TGIF, RG2E Peeps!!!

Last year at this time, my superfab friend and fellow WG2E Team Member, Gordon Kirkland, and I were celebrating each of us making it onto Amazon’s Movers and Shakers List for the first time! 🙂

Literally, it was the same night, after we’d each been featured on the fabulous blog, ENT (Ereader News Today), that we were Facebook Messaging back and forth hootin’ and hollerin’ as we watched each of our books soar up the list. I’ll never forget that night…

Now, in honor of Gordon, who’s currently waiting on a liver transplant, and no longer able to hang with us here on The RG2E, I thought it would be wonderful if we could help him this holiday season.

***Note: You can read about his journey here:

http://thewritersguidetoepublishing.com/the-end-of-the-line

And also keep tabs on him on his Facebook Page.

Here’s the book that just one year ago, we were watching climb higher and higher up Amazon’s Movers and Shakers List:

I luuuvvv this book!!!  In fact, here’s the 5-Star Review I posted after reading it last January:

This review is from: The Plight Before Christmas (Kindle Edition)

This was just a totally magical holiday read from page one all the way to ‘The End’…in fact, I didn’t really want it to end!

I laughed and laughed, and will never think of snow plow drivers and chestnuts in quite the same way!!!

You rock, Gordon Kirkland, and are seriously one of the funniest writers ever!!!

It’s one of those books that will forever change the way you think about Christmas…in a very heart-warming but LMAO kinda way.

****

Just about two weeks ago, I received this note from Gordon’s wife Diane:

Hello: I’m wondering if you could please pass this message along to your groups. Gordon speaks fondly of his work with you.

Hello:
This is Diane Kirkland, Gordon Kirkland’s wife writing. As you may know, Gordon is facing a serious life-threatening health issue, and is awaiting a transplant. The side effects of the condition have meant that he cannot concentrate on writing, and this has definitely not helped his morale. In addition, being unable to take part in any book marketing this year has been quite frustrating for him.

I’m writing to ask for your help. At this time last year, The Plight Before Christmas was heading for #1 on the Amazon Parenting & Family Humor Best Sellers List. If many of you could find five to ten friends to purchase either the paperback or Kindle version of The Plight Before Christmas it would be a real boost to his morale, heading into the holiday season.

As one reviewer said, “If the stress of the holiday season starts to gnaw at you, take some time and read this book. It will have you laughing until tears form in your eyes. I told a friend about this book, and she totally enjoyed it also.”

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and considering my request on behalf of Gordon.

Diane Kirkland

Here’s our chance, RG2E Peeps, to help Gordon and his family this holiday season…

I’ll be Ebook Gifting Gordon’s superfab LOL Christmas Book as well as his other wonderful reads to bunches of you fab RG2E Peeps, friends and family. And if you’d join me in this effort, we could help keep Gordon’s heart warm and filled with love as he waits for his transplant.

Here’s a great picture of the little one (well, not so little now) who’s also helping Gordon during this journey…his new assistance dog, Murphy Brown:

And here’s how she helps keep Gordon company and keeps him safe too:

Okay, RG2E Peeps: Let’s show Gordon some love by getting the word out about his books and Ebook Gifting them, and let me know below which one you’d like me to Ebook Gift you! Also, leave your messages for Gordon here in our comments, and that way his wife and family can share them with him…

Gordon Kirkland has been called ‘one of North America’s premier humorists.’ BookExpo-America named him one of the 7 Book Industry Characters in 2007. He has received the Stephen Leacock Award of Merit for three of his nine books. He is a frequent speaker and workshop leader at writers’ conferences, festivals and university programs in Canada and the United States. He was a member of the cast of the 3-Day Novel television series, which aired on BookTelevision in the Fall of 2009. He lives in near Vancouver, British Columbia. RG2E Featured Author Lily Silver wants to know “Do You Believe in Fairies?”

Happy Thursday, RG2E Peeps!

Here’s a superfab fun question from RG2E Featured Author Lily Silver

“Do You Believe in Fairies?”

I’ve always had a weak spot for fairies. It all started with Tinkerbell, that cute little pixie-like creature with wings when I was a little girl. Tink in Peter Pan captured my fancy by the time I was four years old. My fascination with fairies has stayed with me, but matured over the years from the cartoon icon of Disney’s creation. When I started writing Some Enchanted Waltz a few years ago, I realized I needed to do some research into Irish myths and legends as my story was set in 18th century Ireland, a land imbued with magic, myth and mystery.

My research into Celtic lore led me to a wonderful legend that was faithfully recorded by Lady Wilde, Oscar Wilde’s mother. It goes like this:

“At certain seasons of the year, Fairy Queens make Great Efforts to carry off the fine stalwart young men of the country to the fairy palace in the cleft of the hills. Or they attempt to lure them to their dancing grounds, where the men are lulled into dreams by the sweet, subtle fairy music and forget home, kith and kindred, and never desire to return again to their own people. Even if the spell is broken and they are brought back by some strong incantation, they are never the same; for everyone knows by the dream look in their eyes that they have danced with the fairies on the hill, and been loved by one of the beautiful race, who, when they take a fancy to a handsome mortal lover, cast their spells over him with restless power.”

The Book of Irish Cures, Mystic Charms & Superstitions

By Lady Wilde 1896

I was elated to discover this passage because of the inherent romance element it created for the hero and heroine. I had already created the character of Lord Dillon to be Irish Patriot fighting with the United Irishmen in the Rebellion of 1798. And, I had already created my heroine, Tara, as a modern day college educated woman thrust back through time and rescued by Lord Dillon after she’s captured by soldiers. I still needed to create a plausible reason for the hero to take her into his protection and to insist they marry quickly. Once I found the above passage, I realized Lord Dillon would believe Tara was of the Fey Race, and thus, he would be completely enchanted with her. The storyline and my characters didn’t let me leave it there. Lord Dillon keeps insisting that Tara is a fairy who had lost her way among the mortals. Tara believes he’s just deluded and superstitious. Perhaps he is. But maybe, just maybe, Lord Dillon is right after all. 🙂

In researching fairy lore in Ireland, I came across the most intriguing book of true stories recorded by an Irish journalist who went around interviewing people about their encounters with the Fae. The name of this book, if you are interested, is Meeting the Other Crowd; the fairy stories of hidden Ireland, [collected and edited by Edie Lenihan with Carolyn Eve Green]. In this book I found countless interviews of people being contacted or abducted by strange folk when walking home alone a road. Many people in Ireland still revere the fey race and speak of them in cautious tones. The Fey are referred to in conversation as The Good People or The Other Crowd, so as not to offend them. It is considered very bad luck to build a home on a Fairy mound or too near it. Those who do so are known to have come to ruin.

Interesting thing to to point out is that when people see these ‘Other Folk’ they are not tiny people with wings as we think of when we imagine fairies. The ‘Other Folk’ the Irish refer to are described in these encounters as being human in appearance, the same size as we are but with an otherworldly aura about them, something magical, almost frightening and yet very beautiful and alluring.

Even today in Ireland, it is bad luck to say anything derogatory about the Good People. In one such incident from Meeting the Other Crowd, two women were driving down a winding country road in their car one night, discussing the existence of Fairies. The driver scoffed at the idea and within seconds of her derisive laughter, their car stalled, dead–nothing–nada. The women were now stranded alone on a dark, winding country road–in our century, no less. After the woman driving profusely apologized to the Other Folk, her car started again!

When we consider the reverence of modern people in this magical land for the Fae Race, it’s not too hard to believe that a man in an earlier century would be completely and utterly besotted when he lays eyes on a beautiful and enchanted woman he has taken into his protection.

If you ask Lord Dillon the question: “Do You Believe in Fairies?”

His answer is immediate: “Aye, I’m in love with one.”

Some Enchanted Waltz: A Time Travel Romance

When a violent storm spawns power outages, radio DJ Tara O’Neill must keep broadcasting severe warnings to local residents without electrical power. As the storm intensifies and dead air devours the airwaves, Tara must reboot the transmitter to get back on the air. Lightning strikes as Tara reboots the system, hurtling her through time.

Lord Dillon needs a bride, immediately, to escape his enemy’s snare. He has always respected the Fairy Race. As a boy, he played with them in the secret glen and was warned that one day he would be called upon to shelter one of their own who has lost her way among mortals.

Tara appears just when he needs her, a strange woman with no memory; a wounded woman needing his protection. A beguiling woman with fey features and a strange tattoo of fairy wings across her back . . .

Memories collide with terrifying dreams of being kidnapped by a Darkling Fey Prince, making Tara uncertain of her true origins. Has she been sent to Adrian as he insists to save him from some disastrous fate? As they journey to Dublin, little does Tara realize her husband’s business there is rebellion. The United Irishmen are set to seize the government and free Ireland from English rule.

Can Tara prevent Adrian from dying for a cause destined to fail?

Excerpt:

“I’m afraid this is all that Maggie could find for me.” Tara informed him. “ I’d much prefer a pair of blue jeans and a comfortable sweatshirt to such finery.”

Lord Dillon crossed the room to stand beside her. “A sweaty shirt? Why should a lady wish to wear such a disgusting garment?”

She laughed. The delicate, musical sound only added to her seductive charms. “I’m assuming wearing pants here is entirely out of the question?”

“A young lady shouldn’t speak of men’s breeches in polite company, much less wear them.”  He chastened and immediately regretted his harshness. He had no right to chide her. She was an enchanted being. Irritating her or those who had sent her to him was tantamount to blasphemy. He’d bring a curse on his head and those of his people.  “Women in this realm are not as free in their behavior as your race, I’m afraid.”

“Ah, yes, a woman’s place is in the home, and all that.” She laughed again, amused rather than annoyed by his impertinent outburst. Her mirth evoked the image of a naughty fairy come to taunt the inconsistency of mortal ways. “Well, Lord Dillon, as I am not a woman of your . . . realm . . . as you put it, I will not bow to male chauvinism or adhere to queer customs of a selfish caveman.”

“You speak passing strange.” Adrian remarked. “I implore you to abide by our customs, my dear. To do otherwise would bring scandal and suspicion upon us both. We want you to blend in, not stand out and draw attention to your fey bloodlines.”

Tara frowned, carefully considering his words. “So, you’re saying that if I stand out too much here, it could be dangerous?”

“Yes. Not all men take kindly to those of your race. Some would entrap you, keep you a prisoner and attempt to extract your magic from you by foul means. They would make you their slave, Tara, like a Genie trapped in a bottle. You would be at the mercy of vile men like the ones I rescued you from last week in the barn.”

His words upset her. She sucked in her lower lip and hugged herself in a gesture of self comfort. He wasn’t a cad. He didn’t take any pleasure in frightening women, yet it was better this way, better to have her curb her fey inclinations and appear to belong in his world. Better for both of their sakes. He’d sworn to protect her; he’d sworn long ago to shelter and protect a member of the Sidhe race who had lost her way among the mortals.

In exchange for his protection, she would also protect him from Burke’s scheme.

“You are safe here, Tara.” Adrian couldn’t help adding, “I promise you, by becoming my wife you will have the protection of my name, my title, and my sword. This fortress will be your home. You’ll be safe from the world beyond our gates. And you will live in luxury, Sweet Tara. As Lady Dillon, you will want for nothing.”

Tara stared at the tapestry on the wall beyond him, appearing deep in thought. “Except for a cell phone connection, the internet,” Tara muttered, more to herself than to him. “Starbucks and indoor plumbing.” She released a wearied breath and drew her gaze back to him.

Here’s a Treat for our RG2E Peeps Who are Readers and Writers Too…from RG2E Featured Author Daphne Dangerlove!!!

Happy Hump Day, RG2E Peeps!

Here’s a treat for all of you superfab RG2E Peeps who are both Readers and Writers…from RG2E Featured Author Daphne Dangerlove

The euphoria associated with hitting 50,000 words is undeniable, but when December 1 rolls around, many of us are left wondering what to do with that NaNoWriMo masterpiece. Don’t let it languish in obscurity! With the following five steps, you’ll be able to whip that novel into shape before you know it.

Step One: Finish It

Most novels are longer than 50,000 words, so if you haven’t hit The End yet, keep going until you do. Even though we’re knee-deep in the holiday season, don’t lose your momentum. Successful writers make time the time to write. You’ve already got a head-start on forming a writing habit from your NaNoWriMo experience, so keep up the good work until you’ve finished your novel.

Step Two: Take Stock of Things

Now that you’ve got a completed manuscript in your hand, you’re ready to get down to the real work: revision and editing. Depending on your style, you may want to take a week off and work on something else. Personally, I find that once I’m in the groove, it’s best to just keep working.

Whether you started out with an outline or not, things probably took a few unexpected turns along the way. Your first task is to look through your manuscript and figure out the big problems. Start by making a list. I like to call this my punch list, but you can give it any name that you like.  You are looking for plot holes, characters that popped up or disappeared half way through the story, settings that morphed or changed. You also want to make sure your timeline is solid and your characters didn’t jump forward or backward in time.

It is very helpful to create a new outline based on your story as you wrote it. Map out each of your story threads and character arcs to be sure that you haven’t dropped anything along the way. Note any inconsistencies you find on your punch list.

Step Three: Prioritize Your List

Now take a look at your list. Label the big problems with an A, the medium problems with a B and the smaller ones with a C.  Then you can go back and prioritize all the As, Bs and Cs within each group using numbers. Once you’ve done this, you’ll know exactly what you have to do to get your novel ready for publication. It’s amazing what a clear to-do list will do for your productivity!

Step Four: Start Fixing the Problems

Work from the top of your list to them bottom, solving the real stinkers first. Revising in this manner (instead of working beginning to end) will help you avoid spending large amounts of time fixing small things that will eventually end up on the cutting room floor.

Step Five: The Clean-Up

Now’s the time to go through your manuscript from beginning to end. With your big problems already fixed, you are basically on a cleanup mission. Hone your dialogue, refine your prose, and work on your transitions. Since all the big stuff has already been taken care of, you don’t have to worry about editing something you might end up changing later. This is not to say you can’t or won’t find some additional underlying issues, but for the most part those should be behind you.

Once you’ve completed these five critical steps, your manuscript should be in tip-top shape and it’s time to get it ready for publication. Depending on your personal preference, you may want to use a combination of critique partners and beta readers to get that critical reader feedback on your work. And while you can do many tasks associated with self publishing yourself, you should seek the services of a professional editor and proof-reader before sending your work out into the wide world. Your readers will thank you for it and so will your bank account when the sales start piling up from adoring fans.

Daphne Dangerlove is a writer at heart and a trainer by profession. After spending years writing manuals for the human resources department at work, she finally decided to write a guide for something she loved to do in her spare time: writing. Her first book was a dinky little pdf for her writing group, outlining the finer points of writing romance. It’s popularity led her to the world of Self-Publishing.

As a member of Generation X, she immediately sought a book to tell her exactly what to do to get her first eBook on Amazon. Instead of one book, she found dozens. None of them provided a comprehensive guide to the entire Publication process though. Tired of scrambling around for the answers she needed, she put them all in one book and the Self-Publishing Toolkit was born.

Now that her Human Resources job is a thing of the past, Daphne spends her non-writing time reading great books, knitting beautiful things and swimming with her kids in Southern California. Her Dad is glad that B.A. in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara he paid for is finally getting some use. The Self-Publishing Toolkit is her fourth non-fiction book.

RG2E Featured Author Elaine Raco Chase talks Audio Books!

Wavin’ atchya, RG2E Peeps!

Please give a big ol’ RG2E Welcome to Elaine Raco Chase who’s here today to talk about her fabulous, bestselling Audio Books!!!

Take it away, Elaine…

Hi everyone!  Thanks again DD Scott for letting me have so much fun with these RG2E postings!

Today I am here with audio books!  Love them! When I was first print-published, I eagerly agreed for all my romance and mystery novels to be part of Lighthouse for the Blind audio cassettes with matching Braille books.

But how things have changed!  Now audio books – in so many formats – are the hottest thing going.  And I read about it first on DD’s main blog – so a big wave and thank you DD!

I’ve introduced quite a few author friends to audio books and the group I’m using ACX.com – which is part of Amazon.  But take heart – the audio books go to: iTunes and audible.com – so everyone can ‘hear’ your words.

“Hearing your words”…sometimes that can strike fear into an author’s heart.  I think all of us struggle to find the right words that define our characters and can mentally hear the intonation of those words as we write them.  But what happens when someone elses voice says your words? That’s actually the hardest part of creating an audio book – finding the right narrator.  A person whose voice and tonations can make my book, my story, my characters come alive to a reader.

I found Sheila Book just when she joined ACX as a narrator – she did my first audio book Video Vixen and you can hear her ‘purr naughty’ whenever she becomes soap-opera siren Vixen Mallory.

Then I asked …well okay, begged, her to consider Designing Woman. I could just hear her as Brandy Abbott – one minute the consummate architect, the next the consummate sexpot who drives poor Griffen St. Claire into more than distraction.  Luckily Sheila agreed and wow the reviews have been fantastic:

“Great dialogue – And it ALL sounds like a conversation you could overhear at any time, in many situations. That technique alone makes the book a worthwhile read – that it is combined and integrated into a tightly written, fast paced and sexy story makes this worth every one of the 5 stars.

The audio book was narrated beautifully, with words clear and pacing easy to follow. I tend to listen at 2.5 speed, I talk fast too, but It wasn’t too fast to follow the story.

Whether you are looking for a break from television, or don’t mind the other commuters staring at you as you laugh, often, the audiobook is well worth the investment.”

Sheila is now working Calculated Risk .

After listening to at least 50 narrators, I found Janina Edwards who narrated One Way or Another –it was one of Audible.com’s “Best Reviewed Romances Novels of October.”

One reviewer wrote: “It was enjoyable to listen to. The narrator, Janina, did an excellent job. She has a great voice and just became all of the characters. You know the narration is done well when it sort of fades into the background and all you hear is the story.”

Rules of the Game just hit audible.com and iTunes narrated by Rachel Logan. Rachel has a wonderful voice and, like Janina, you just get trapped into the erotic romantic comedy.  It does have a warning label on it!

I worked in radio and television for many years – I even did voice over’s (VO) for I Dream of Jeannie and Wild Kingdom as well as a few sports shows (I know I’ve dated myself but that was me saying: “and next week….” Or “please stay tuned…”) and I did some fantastic radio plays as well.

I had wondered if audio books could be done like a radio play – with opening music, sound effects, dual voices (or even more than two) and I was thrilled to discover Bella Czar Productions shared my thoughts.  Award-winning narrators Destiny Landon and Lee James not only became a cast of 100’s at times but also wrote original music for each chapter and added sound effects, when appropriate, for both Special Delivery and Dare the Devil.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea – but it sure is mine. And one reviewer wrote such a detailed review I am framing it:

Where does Dare the Devil rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Good question. The difference between this audio book and others is the overall production is spectacular – which typically is accomplished through bigger budgets of course and stellar talent. It is read by duo narrators whom are exceptionally gifted with the ability to “become” the characters they portrayed. I would call them talented actors rather than narrators. There was a great amount of back and forth dialogue from a great amount of characters that really filled out the stories big picture and was really well done.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dare the Devil? The helicopter scene was exciting.

Any additional comments?

This was a great story that was truly different from your generic romance. It was quite original, and really fun to listen too. I loved Cam’s grandmothers who tricked Devlin. Lots of funny parts, real (and hot) romance in a difficult industry and time. Strong characters that were believable and ethical. Just a great listen.

Bella Czar’s Destiny and Lee also did Special Delivery – just two people in the entire book – it’s been on the top of the erotic romance audio bestseller’s list since it was posted and it’s got great reviews!

What about Destiny Landon and Lee James ’s performance did you like?

I love Destiny Landons voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She totally took the character of Roxanne and made it her own. She “IS” Roxanne! Lee was a perfect romantic counterpart, angling her combative nature with the right playfulness in his tone that the writer expertly devised in their dialogue.

Any additional comments?

This is a must “listen” to all you fellow listeners who really enjoy well executed, combative foreplay and well written/descriptive literature.

Destiny and Lee are hard at work on Double Occupancy – which may make even me squirm – it’s been on FB’s Top 50 Books to read after 50 Shades of Grey for 20 weeks (11/15) – oh, my…and they are going to do my newest ebook: Caught in a Trap as well as my mystery series!

I hope you’ll sample all my audio books – they are attached to the ebook on Amazon, in iTunes and at audible.com…and there are so many other great audio books to choose from…did I say “audio books make great gifts!”

And speaking of gifts – I have 15 audio books to give a way today – you’ll be able to choose your download off of audible.com – nothing to join, you’ll get a gift code. The only choice – is the heat level!

Many of you know that I host The Author’s Corner every Thursday nite at 8PM eastern time, on www.trianglevarietyradio.com – internet radio. DD will be joining me and a few other authors and narrators on December 13th – when we talk audio books…hope you’ll listen in!

About Elaine:

What a great time to be a writer! I am thrilled to be able to update, enhance, extend my bestselling print romantic comedies.  Connecting with fans and other writers has been fantastic all courtesy of Facebook/twitter. My romantic comedies are available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Smashwords, AllRomance, Itunes – everyplace!

I also host The Author’s Corner every Thursday nite, 8PM EDT on trianglevarietyradio.com – blog talk radio.  I feature authors and their books along with marketing experts for writers; reading experts for parents; and bullying help for everyone!  There’s always something fun on the show – so I hope you’ll listen in!

What am I up to?  So excited about Double Occupancy it’s been on Facebooks’ Top 50 Books to read after 50 Shades of Grey list for 15 weeks!  No bdsm – just an erotic romantic comedy, with adult characters who share a Mexican villa.

Can’t wait for Dare the Devil to hit on audible.com! The award-winning duo of Destiny Landon and Lee James, plus original music, sound effects have turned this erotic western into a movie sound track.  Destiny and Lee did Special Delivery and it’s been on audible.com’s erotic romance bestseller’s list since it came out.  Also Sheila Book purr’s naughty in your ear as the narrator for both Video Vixen andDesigning Woman. Janina Edwards is just fabulous, as she recreates One Way or Another in audio. In fact – if you’ve read this far and put One Way in your response, you might just get one audio book for free!

I currently am working on another erotic romantic comedy – Caught in a Trap!  Then I will be updating my award-winning mystery series featuring Roman Cantrell and Nikki Holden.

RG2E Featured Author Nancy Lee Badger talks Authors and Road Trips

Happy Weekend, RG2E Peeps!

Welcome to The RG2E and/or Welcome Back!!!

Did you know that Road Trips often inspire authors?

Here’s RG2E Featured Author Nancy Lee Badger to tell you all about it…

What do you think of when you picture your favorite romance author at work? Is she lounging on the couch in a silk negligee? Eating chocolates while dictating her next best seller? Or, is she typing away at her computer with glasses perched on the end of her nose and an empty coffee cup at her elbow?

Growing up with romance novels made me want to try my hand at writing. College, marriage, children, and life’s little foibles stalled my dream. When I finally gave it a try, I wrote long-hand on a legal pad between emergency calls at the 9-1-1 center where I worked. On third shift, twenty to thirty minutes could go by between calls, so I wrote. When I returned home each morning, I copied my work word-by-word onto my computer, then fell asleep and dreamed of more plot ideas.

When I decided to retire from New Hampshire emergency services, and write full-time I wrote in my sister’s back bedroom for six months while hubby and I shopped for a new home in North Carolina. I was surrounded by everything we owned that was not in storage, and I will admit the space was a bit cramped. My sister’s lovely Golden Retriever kept me company, and continued to share my space when we moved into our new home. I dog-sit several days a week, and she keeps our new cat happy.

So, you see, I am not alone at home. It is when I travel that things turn on its head. If I drive alone, I cannot write until I get to my destination, which makes it hard to jot notes or type a chapter. I now carry a small pocket tape recorder to make notes to work on later. When I am a passenger, I either write in my journal or open my laptop and type. A recent 2-day trip to New England found me in the back seat with my computer on a lap desk. I have a converter cord that plugs into the car (we used to call that slot the cigarette lighter!)

I have found that if I do not write SOMETHING every day, I get behind. Besides working on the third book in my Highland Games Through Time series, I promote my books on several social media sites, write articles for blogs like this one, and keep my readers up to date on my own blog. Currently, I am reporting my daily word-count to www.NaNoWriMo.org, the National November Writing Month Blog. NaNoWriMo is an annual event that urges writers to get at least 50,000 words written. It is a great learning tool that is very freeing. What do I mean by freeing? They tell their contestants to forget about spell-check, edits of any kinds, chapter breaks, etc. Just write the story, and work on all the rest next month.

So, I am writing as much as I can. I hate silence. When I write, either the radio is on or the TV is showing a program I can follow by ear. On road trips, a hotel room can be fairly austere, so you might find me in the lobby or restaurant typing away. Placing my laptop on a solid table top, or on my lap while I relax on a deep-cushioned couch is easier on my aging body than the back seat of a car! Since this is my livelihood, and my dream job, I find I can write just about anywhere at any time.

Recently, during the month or so between mid-September and late October, I traveled from North Carolina to New England, to Atlanta, To Florida, and back to Atlanta before heading home. I love to travel and do most of it by car. Since I have no plans for the next few months, I will concentrate on typing away on my computer with a dog at my feet, a cat peering over my shoulder, and a cup of coffee by my keyboard. Back to work, until the next road trip!

Book Blurb of my latest release MY BANISHED HIGHLANDER

When his clan convicts Cameron Robeson of thievery, kidnapping, and treason in 1598 Scotland, the last thing he thought his cousin would do was banish him to the future. With revenge against Laird Kirkwall Gunn fresh on his mind, and the image of a woman left behind weighing on his heart, he passes the time doing an old woman’s bidding. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the New England Highland Games, he dreams of returning to his time, alone. His plans go awry when a comely lass wearing the Mackenzie plaid lands at his feet.

Worried about her friend lost in the past, Iona Mackenzie searches for answers among the tents and vendors at the New England Highland Games. She needs help, but who can she trust? Her father? The handsome blacksmith? Or, the Viking look-a-like. The tall, golden-haired Highlander makes her legs turn to jelly. Too bad she’s shoved romance to a back seat. Saving her friend, Haven, is her only priority, no matter how sweet the man can kiss.

When a magical amulet, an ancient book of spells, and an angry sorcerer send this unlikely couple back through time, more than one heart will be broken. When danger, intrigue, and threats surround them, feelings between Iona and Cameron grow hot and steamy. They team up with Cameron’s enemies to fight the sorcerer and search for Haven—Iona’s friend and the woman Cameron plans to steal from his cousin to make his own. Will the strong-willed Highlander and the present day witch stop fighting long enough to listen to their hearts?
