RG2E Featured Author Mary Campisi on Writing Through the Pain

Happy Tuesday, RG2E Peeps!

Welcome to The RG2E and/or Welcome Back!

Here’s RG2E Featured Author Mary Campisi to show you the results of Writing Through the Pain.

Take it away, Mary…

Paradise Found was originally published in mass market paperback by Kensington Publishing in 2002. When I received my rights back and decided to bring it out in e-book format, I pretty much gutted the book and re-worked it. It was a long and arduous task but I’m very pleased with the results. Some might ask why I would do this when it had been been published, was an RT Top Pick and loved by many. My response is that as a writer, I am always working on my craft and saw an opportunity to improve the story.

Paradise Found ($2.99) – Amazon,  i-TunesB&N,   KoboSmashwords

I had forgotten that I wrote much of this book through periods of intense pain, but once I flipped open the acknowledgment on that old paperback, it all came back.. I thought I’d share it with you:

Paradise Found will always be special to me because it taught me what spirit and strength and will can do. Much of this book was written in pain – hours of it, days, months—doubled over, with a hot-water bottle pressed against my lower abdomen. The diagnosis was severe endometriosis and I underwent three surgeries in two months, the last of which was a complete hysterectomy.

Well. So glad those days are over!

And this is what I have to say about Paradise Found…Paradise Found explores the delicate balance between ‘blind’ trust and hope, the development and nurturing of feelings—where physical appearances are non-existent—and the inevitable fear that accompanies any relationship when the mask of politeness is discarded and the true self is revealed.

About Mary:

Mary Campisi should have known she’d become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the endings to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.

When she’s not working on her craft or following the lives of five young adult children, Mary’s digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab mix, Cooper, or on the prefect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own “hero” husband, on his Electra Glide Classic aka Harley.

Mary has been published with Kensington, Carina Press, The Wild Rose Press, and Jocelyn Hollow Romance.

  1. Endometriosis is something I understand well, I have had 4 surgeries because of it! I’m glad that it is over for you, I know having a hysterectomy isn’t fun but because of my age doctors don’t want to do one! But hearing your story made me feel better:) This book sounds wonderful and I would love a copy for my nook please and Thank you so much!

  2. Hello Allyson and Becky! Thanks for stopping by to chat today and best wishes on the book giveaway. Allyson, I am so very sorry to hear you have endometriosis. I never even thought about that being the problem when I started having pain because I had three children. I do wish you well and my thoughts will be with you. The more I talk about this, the more women I meet who share similar stories.
