RG2E Featured Author Cate Dean Answers “So, How Long Does It Take?”

Happy Sunday, RG2E Peeps!

Welcome to The RG2E and/or Welcome Back!

Today, we’ve got the A-mazing Cate Dean , who will answer one of the questions authors are asked most…

*******************

Have you ever wanted to ask a favorite author how long it took to write that book? Was it easy, or did they struggle through the entire thing? As someone who has been writing since I was – okay, younger, I can give you my viewpoint.

I am a fast writer. Because I tend to visualize the entire story in my head before I even start putting anything on paper, there are times when I can barely type fast enough to keep up. I have read entire sections during editing and don’t even remember writing them.

Rest For The Wicked was like that – a lightning strike. I couldn’t type fast enough, and I literally felt like I was reading the story for the first time when I went back to edit. From the outline to finished draft it took a month to write. A long, frantic month.

On Amazon , B&N Nook and Smashwords

I have always written fast – for me, there is no other way. I tried the “agonizing over every sentence as I wrote it” route, and it was disastrous. I got writer’s block every time I sat down, and completely stressed by the whole process.

Now I pummel my critic into submission, lock her in a closet, and let the words just fly out of my head and on to the page. Having an outline makes this an easy process – I have a rough path to follow, know where I am headed, and what I need to have in place to get there.

And yes, it’s different for every single one of us. Ask five writers, get five distinct, completely individual answers.

This writing gig can be a wild ride, and sometimes an exhausting one, but I get to do what I love – write stories that I hope you all will enjoy reading.

And now is your chance to ask me a question – about anything. 🙂 I look forward to finding out what you want to know about the mysterious, magical process of creating a book.

Until next time – read on.

cheers,

~Cate

RG2E Stories Behind the Stories with Romantic Suspense Author Kristine Cayne: What Inspires Me to Write

Happy Sunday, RG2E Peeps!

We’ve got a wonderful RG2E Stories Behind the Stories with the A-mazing Kristine Cayne!

And yes, you could win an Ebook Gift Copy of her debut release DEADLY OBSESSION!!!

Take it away, Kristine…

What Inspires Me to Write?

By Kristine Cayne

“Twisted secrets, extreme passions, and deadly desires”

People often ask me where my ideas come from, what makes a storyline click for me. As my tagline above says, I’m intrigued by the secrets people keep, by the passions that push them to points beyond their limits, and especially by the needs and desires that become the driving force in their lives. In some cases, it is my hero or heroine who will embody some of these aspects, and sometimes it is my villains or antagonists.

It’s often said that a good villain is one who believes he or she is the hero/heroine of the story. For this to be true, the villain must have a strong reason for why they are the way they are, a convincing argument for why they do the things they do. Their passions must be well-developed and relatable, or they will seem one-dimensional. I truly believe this, and I do my best to create villains who are as well-rounded as their hero/heroine counterparts.

In Deadly Obsession, my villain is a stalker. This offered me a fabulous opportunity to delve into the psychology and behaviors of stalking. The villain develops a love obsession (extreme passions) for the hero, Nic Lamoureux, and will do anything to have him return that love (deadly desires). This anything begins small and eventually devolves into murder.

On Amazon , B&N Nook and Smashwords

In Deadly Addiction, my villain is a radical extremist, a native man who will do anything (deadly desires) to obtain sovereignty for his people. While his goals are noble, his methods are not. When the hero and heroine get in his way while trying to realize their own dreams, his methods turn deadly. There is no limit to how far he’ll go, what he’ll do. Obtaining his goal is all that matters (extreme passions).

On Amazon , B&N Nook and Smashwords

But what about the twisted secrets? No worries. I’ve got those covered, too. In Deadly Obsession, the hero, Nic Lamoureux, has a secret from his adolescence that he’s kept from virtually everyone. In fact, he changes his whole life and keeps a distance from those he loves to ensure his secret stays hidden. The heroine, Lauren James, has her own secrets forged of anger and guilt for which she’s developed her own self-punishment.

In Deadly Addiction, the hero, Rémi Whitedeer, is the villain’s half-white cousin. Rémi keeps secrets from the heroine regarding his past. He also hides the truth about the impacts his relationship with her will have on his future. The heroine, Alyssa Morgan, has secrets regarding her past assignments that she keeps from the hero, until those secrets surface and she can no longer hide them.

“Twisted secrets, extreme passions, and deadly desires”—is it any wonder I write romantic suspense?

About the Author

Kristine Cayne is fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology—twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of-control desires. Add in high-stakes scenarios and real-world villains, and you have a story worth writing, and reading.

The heroes and heroines of her Deadly Vices series are pitted against each other by their radically opposing life experiences. By overcoming their differences and finding common ground, they triumph over their enemies and find true happiness in each other’s arms.

Today she lives in the Pacific Northwest, thriving on the mix of cultures, languages, religions and ideologies. When she’s not writing, she’s people-watching, imagining entire life stories, and inventing all sorts of danger for the unsuspecting heroes and heroines who cross her path.
