RG2E Peeps: Let’s Show our Love for RG2E Featured Author Gordon Kirkland, Who’s Waiting for a Liver Transplant

TGIF, RG2E Peeps!!!

Last year at this time, my superfab friend and fellow WG2E Team Member, Gordon Kirkland, and I were celebrating each of us making it onto Amazon’s Movers and Shakers List for the first time! 🙂

Literally, it was the same night, after we’d each been featured on the fabulous blog, ENT (Ereader News Today), that we were Facebook Messaging back and forth hootin’ and hollerin’ as we watched each of our books soar up the list. I’ll never forget that night…

Now, in honor of Gordon, who’s currently waiting on a liver transplant, and no longer able to hang with us here on The RG2E, I thought it would be wonderful if we could help him this holiday season.

***Note: You can read about his journey here:

http://thewritersguidetoepublishing.com/the-end-of-the-line

And also keep tabs on him on his Facebook Page.

Here’s the book that just one year ago, we were watching climb higher and higher up Amazon’s Movers and Shakers List:

On Amazon ($2.99)

I luuuvvv this book!!!  In fact, here’s the 5-Star Review I posted after reading it last January:

This review is from: The Plight Before Christmas (Kindle Edition)

This was just a totally magical holiday read from page one all the way to ‘The End’…in fact, I didn’t really want it to end!

I laughed and laughed, and will never think of snow plow drivers and chestnuts in quite the same way!!!

You rock, Gordon Kirkland, and are seriously one of the funniest writers ever!!!

It’s one of those books that will forever change the way you think about Christmas…in a very heart-warming but LMAO kinda way.

****

Just about two weeks ago, I received this note from Gordon’s wife Diane:

Hello: I’m wondering if you could please pass this message along to your groups. Gordon speaks fondly of his work with you.

Hello:
This is Diane Kirkland, Gordon Kirkland’s wife writing. As you may know, Gordon is facing a serious life-threatening health issue, and is awaiting a transplant. The side effects of the condition have meant that he cannot concentrate on writing, and this has definitely not helped his morale. In addition, being unable to take part in any book marketing this year has been quite frustrating for him.

I’m writing to ask for your help. At this time last year, The Plight Before Christmas was heading for #1 on the Amazon Parenting & Family Humor Best Sellers List. If many of you could find five to ten friends to purchase either the paperback or Kindle version of The Plight Before Christmas it would be a real boost to his morale, heading into the holiday season.

As one reviewer said, “If the stress of the holiday season starts to gnaw at you, take some time and read this book. It will have you laughing until tears form in your eyes. I told a friend about this book, and she totally enjoyed it also.”

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and considering my request on behalf of Gordon.

Diane Kirkland

Here’s our chance, RG2E Peeps, to help Gordon and his family this holiday season…

I’ll be Ebook Gifting Gordon’s superfab LOL Christmas Book as well as his other wonderful reads to bunches of you fab RG2E Peeps, friends and family. And if you’d join me in this effort, we could help keep Gordon’s heart warm and filled with love as he waits for his transplant.

Here’s a great picture of the little one (well, not so little now) who’s also helping Gordon during this journey…his new assistance dog, Murphy Brown:

And here’s how she helps keep Gordon company and keeps him safe too:

Okay, RG2E Peeps: Let’s show Gordon some love by getting the word out about his books and Ebook Gifting them, and let me know below which one you’d like me to Ebook Gift you! Also, leave your messages for Gordon here in our comments, and that way his wife and family can share them with him…

Gordon Kirkland has been called ‘one of North America’s premier humorists.’ BookExpo-America named him one of the 7 Book Industry Characters in 2007. He has received the Stephen Leacock Award of Merit for three of his nine books. He is a frequent speaker and workshop leader at writers’ conferences, festivals and university programs in Canada and the United States. He was a member of the cast of the 3-Day Novel television series, which aired on BookTelevision in the Fall of 2009. He lives in near Vancouver, British Columbia. In addition, he is in great demand as a speaker at conferences, conventions, and festivals throughout North America. An April 2006 profile of Kirkland in the Canadian edition of Reader’s Digest said, “Kirkland’s specialty is making others laugh at him, at themselves, and at life in general.” In this book, Kirkland once again takes on subjects ranging from marriage to dealing with a canine companion. He covers his topics with the same sense of fun and frivolity that has marked his previous books, and led reviewers to proclaim him “one of North America’s premier humorists.”

Long-time fans and those who have just discovered Kirkland’s writing will enjoy these examples of his gristly slice of life!

Gordon Kirkland brings his award-winning humor writing to the topic of the holiday season. He exposes the world to his feelings about everything from children’s Christmas pageants, to artificial trees, and holiday lights.

Fans of Kirkland’s other five collections of short humorous stories (three of which received the Stephen Leacock Award of Merit for Humour,) will enjoy more of his unique style focusing on the fun and foibles of daily life during the so-called joyous season.
In this collection, Kirkland stretches his muscles as a lyricist, writing new words for several old and familiar holiday songs.

For Better Or For Worse creator Lynn Johnston says, “I love to read his stuff, I just wouldn’t want to be married to him.” (It’s a sentiment shared by a lot of women who sympathize with his long suffering wife, Diane.)

Fellow humor writer, Dave Barry says, “As a fellow class clown suffering from maturity impairment, I salute him.”

See for yourself, Kirkland will have you ho-ho-hoing from start to finish!

W. Bruce Cameron, the author of Eight Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter, A Dog’s Purpose, Emory’s Gift and more says, “A wonderful, nostalgic look at a simpler time and place, The Plight Before Christmas will appeal to fans of A Christmas Story. You don’t just read about this family–you live with them as they fumble and stumble to a hilarious holiday.”

Syndicated humor columnist, blogger (Lost In Suburbia), and author (Rebel Without A Minivan) Tracy Beckerman says, “The Plight Before Christmas’ is misnamed. It should be called ‘The Gift Before Christmas’ because this magical story is the best gift you can give or receive for the holidays!”

What if Murphy’s Law took over the holidays?

James Kelly is a toy store owner, longing for the days when imagination didn’t come in the form of a computer chip in the latest incarnations of video game consoles. His store is suffering a pre-Christmas disaster, in part because the shoppers have all headed out to the malls near the edge of town, and partially because it is almost Christmas and there hasn’t been a hint of snow. When snow starts falling outside his store, James daydreams his way back to a much earlier holiday season, when the snow was late in arriving.

When snow came on that late December day in the early 1960’s, it brought with it a series of calamities and disasters to the Kelly household. If something could go wrong, it would, and if several things could go wrong, they all would in a cascade of comedic misadventures. No one was immune, especially James and his father Charles.

The Plight Before Christmas is written with the same sense of wit and whimsy that Kirkland brought to his earlier award-winning and bestselling books, and in his syndicated humor column that ran in American and Canadian newspapers from 1994 to 2007. This story is written for adults, but is also suitable for older YA readers.

Award-winning and best-selling author and humorist Gordon Kirkland, has taken his innate sense of humor and combined it with his love for a good mystery to create Crossbow.

Someone is killing the residents of a small Kansas town. Although the victims appear to have been randomly chosen, the killer has, in fact, decided that they must die for transgressions he believes they have committed. Among the first to be slain is the County Sherriff, leaving two deputies to try to solve the case before the killer can achieve his ultimate goal.

The deputies are far from seasoned police professionals. Dave Simmons, the senior of the two, is doing his best to improve by learning new police techniques. He’d like to bring geographic profiling to the department, but a serious impediment to that goal is his propensity to get lost whenever he gets behind the wheel of his police cruiser. Chuck Wilson the other deputy would like to be a police dog handler. Unfortunately, the County cannot afford a properly trained police dog, so he is trying to make do with Duke, his own Springer Spaniel, a dog with an intelligence quotient just slightly lower than the average head of cabbage.

Added to the mix is a missing romance author who arrived in town to interview the first murder victim just before his death, an ambitious small town newspaper reporter, who gets her leads across the pillow from the junior deputy, and the grieving father of one of the victims.

Crossbow is filled with “well-rendered” and “quirky characters and plot twists.” that have readers begging for a sequel.

Romance:

A roller coaster of a romance between a divorced dad and a dance teacher.

Ballet instructor Casey Richardson takes an immediate dislike to the brash, arrogant Drew Byrne when he pulls his nine-year-old son out of her “silly” dance class. Still, she cannot help noticing his smoking hot body and bedroom eyes.

A working class girl raised in the small fishing and farming community on Long Island’s rural North Fork, Casey knows all too well how easily a girl can get hurt by the notorious womanizing hunks that flourish on the South Fork in the Hamptons. Men like Drew Byrne.

The last thing she needs is for him to be the only one who can save her from losing her dance academy, the dream she has worked so hard to turn into a reality.

Remarrying is definitely off Drew’s list of things to do. As head of his Fortune 500 trucking company, he enjoys his wealth and has no problem keeping it a game with some of the world’s most beautiful women. So why should his son’s challenging, straight talking dance teacher get under his skin in a way no other female has?

Sure, Casey Richardson has luminous brown eyes and a lean, taut body that drives him nuts, but he’s seen plenty in his day with the supermodels he is used to dating. He tells himself it is because Casey is the only one who was able to bring his shy, uncommunicative son out of his shell. But even that isn’t it.

Bewildered, Drew decides he just might make use of those ridiculous psychic readings he won at North Cove’s Annual Fourth Of July Bazaar raffle. Little does he know the local psychic who donated the readings has taken off last minute for some trekking in Tibet —and Casey was swayed into substituting for her with phone readings to the anonymous winner.

Add in a stint on a hit TV dance-off series, a cozy local coffee shop, a narcissistic rock star and a protective big brother to make KISS ME, DANCER a sexy, heartfelt and fun read.

For starters, Amber accidentally shoots Chief Inspector Janice Skipper and gets thrown off the police force. The only one who knows the truth about the incident is Amber, but no one will believe her.

After accepting a job as an insurance investigator from her ex-fiancé, Brad Beckett, it turns out that Brad thinks they’ve still got unfinished business and the job description includes sexual favours that come with a price.

When fashion designer, Umberto Fandango, goes missing, Amber becomes embroiled in a complicated case. But Amber’s arch-enemy, Chief Inspector Skipper, is also investigating his disappearance, and it’s a race against time for Amber to solve the mystery before Skipper does and get her old job back. And just when Amber thinks things can’t get any worse, she’s being stalked by some crazy mobsters.

Who is Umberto Fandango? Is he dead? And can Amber stay one step ahead and stay alive?

HOOKED is a story of sex, greed, ambition, murder, revenge and assassination — and of a gifted doctor from a small town in Kentucky.

With a contemporary feel, the novel takes place in the mid-20th century when America was at the pinnacle of its power and prestige.  Set in New York and Washington, a remote fishing village on the Turkish Riviera, Sweden, Vienna, Cairo and aboard Lydia, the world’s most beautiful yacht, the story centers on Gavin Jenkins, the brilliant, charismatic Dr. FeelGood.

Dr. Jenkins’ miracle treatments give patients everything they want:  youth, beauty, radiant vitality and sexual potency.  No wonder he is worshiped by the celebrities who become his patients.  No wonder his influence runs from the private island of an enigmatic Turkish billionaire with a bloody secret to the crimson-draped bedroom of a depraved, Mid-eastern Prince;  from the private dressing rooms of world-famous artists to the heights of international society and the inner sanctums of the White House itself.

The touch of his hands and the plunge of his needle made every fantasy come true.  No wonder so many were HOOKED.

WARNING: HOOKED contains sexually explicit scenes. If you are offended by such material, please do not buy HOOKED.

  • “There’s nothing like a sauna to thaw a cold spell” for Talli Roland’s MISTLETOE AND THE FIVE-YEAR ITCH
