RG2E Featured Author PJ Sharon offers a FREE “New Adult” Read!!!

Wavin’ atchya, RG2E Peeps!

How many of you are reading the relatively new genre of “New Adult” Ebooks?

Not sure what that is?

Here’s the scoop and a FREE Ebook in that fabulous genre from RG2E Featured Author PJ Sharon…

So happy to be back at the RG2E, offering a heartwarming romance to celebrate the season of love. Heaven is for Heroes is a contemporary New Adult romance that deals with the tragedies of war, overcoming loss, and the determination of one seventeen year old girl to find the truth.

Heaven is for Heroes 72 dpi 200x300

Filled with moments of poignant reality, hard lessons, and the angst and sexual tension of first love, the book combines family drama and the relationship between childhood sweethearts, Jordie Dunn and Alex Cooper. Because the focus of the story is the tenuous romance with the underlying plot of a family’s search for peace in time of war, HIFH will appeal to adult readers as well as older young adults, which is why I say the book falls into the New Adult category that is rapidly becoming popular. Though the heroine is seventeen (the typical age of many YA heroines), the hero is a nineteen year-old military veteran who is wounded in action. Not your typical high school drama, but more a contemporary romance that appeals to the 19-23 year-old audience and beyond.

One reader said,

“With entertaining secondary characters and a challenging mother-daughter relationship, the story deals with real life issues with both unwavering comprehension and uplifting humor.”

And Kristan Higgins, NYT and USA Today bestselling author says,

“Filled with the complex emotions of grief, confusion and first love, HEAVEN IS FOR HEROES is a rich, uplifting story that will touch a reader’s heart.”

This book has been rated 4.5 stars on 17 Amazon Reviews and holds an IndiePENdents seal of approval for quality Indie fiction.

In honor of St. Valentine’s Day and always in honor of our Veterans, I’m offering HEAVEN IS FOR HEROES free Sunday, Feb. 17-Tuesday, Feb. 19th on AMAZON. Download it today!

I hope you enjoy Jordie and Alex’s journey. Honest reviews are always welcomed.

So what do you, my friendly readers, think about the New Adult genre? Is it a passing fad, or here to stay? Or would this new classification help you hone in on what you love to read?

RG2E Featured Author PJ Sharon talks “On Thin Ice” (FREE this weekend on Amazon) and Life’s Embarrassing Moments

Thank you so much for having me back here at the RG2E. I’m sharing a story today that is near and dear to my heart.

on thin ice front cover jpg

ON THIN ICE is the story of Penny Trudeau, a seventeen-year-old figure skater who deals with many challenges that teens face today—a parent with cancer, the pressures of competition that lead to an eating disorder, and a teen pregnancy that forces her to face her destructive choices head on. Add a handsome young hockey hunk and family secrets that will change her world forever, and you’ve got a complex and richly woven tale that shows the power of love and forgiveness, and how holding on to hope can get you through the darkest of times.

Although Penny’s story is different from my own in many ways, we have a few things in common. I was a figure skater, my mother did die of cancer when I was a teenager, and I became a mother at seventeen. My personal experiences definitely came through in the story, but one episode during my skating career that I didn’t write about was an embarrassing moment that made national television.

I believe I was about twelve at the time and the skating club I belonged to was honored with the task of providing skaters for the opening ceremony for the 1976 US National Figure Skating Championships. I was chosen to carry the Connecticut State flag and we were supposed to skate around the rink in formation—easy peasy for someone with my grace and considerable skill, right? Um…no. In my nervousness, I forgot to remove my skate guards and as I stepped onto the ice, my feet went in different directions and the flag went flying, taking out a few other skaters at the same time. I can laugh now, but you can imagine my embarrassment. In the true spirit of “the show must go on,” we picked ourselves up, regrouped and skated around the rink to cheers of support. As we stood center ice and the National Anthem played, the tears that ran down my cheeks had more to do with my wounded ego and sore butt than any sense I had of national pride. What it did teach me was humility and how to get up and keep going—a lesson that has served me well in my writing life.

I hope you’ll read Penny’s story and be reminded that we each have an internal strength that carries us through the most difficult of circumstances, and that through lessons of adversity we have opportunities for growth.

In honor of National Skating Month and the US Figure Skating Championships taking place in Omaha, Nebraska this week, I’m offering ON THIN ICE for FREE from AMAZON Saturday, January 26th to Monday, January 28th. Download it today, and feel free to spread the word to friends who might enjoy a “triumph over tragedy” kind of story. Readers of all ages will appreciate Penny’s struggle and root for her hopefully ever after end.

How about you? Any embarrassing moments you’d like to share? Lessons learned the hard way?

RG2E Featured Author PJ Sharon asks “Are You Afraid of The Future?”

Happy Monday, RG2E Peeps!

Welcome to The RG2E and/or Welcome Back!

Today, RG2E Featured Author PJ Sharon asks “Are You Afraid of The Future?”

Take it away, PJ…

I saw a funny cartoon on Facebook a while back. It said something like, “I’m an apocaloptomist; I know the world is doomed, but I believe everything will be okay anyway.” At the time, I remember laughing and thinking, that’s me! With all the hype about the Mayan calendar predicting the end of an age come this December, the pivotal political race looming, and the global economy circling the drain, not to mention Mother nature’s wrath wreaking havoc (hello Super-storm Sandy!), everyone is a bit…well…nervous might be an understatement. People have plenty of reasons to be on edge.

But here’s my take—there isn’t a darn thing we can do to stop any of it. Sure, we can vote for the leader least likely to hurry the process of inevitable collapse, but let’s face it, every culture has its day in the sun, rises and falls, and then disappears. Worrying yourself sick about it serves no purpose but to increase the climate of fear and ruin a perfectly good rest of your life. Many years ago, I learned a valuable lesson in synonyms from scripture. The definition of fear is, believing what you cannot see will come to pass. The definition of faith is, believing what you cannot see will come to pass. Ironic, huh? You can either live in fear or live in faith. I choose to live in faith.

When I wrote WANING MOON, Book One in The Chronicles of Lily Carmichael, a dystopian trilogy, I did a lot of research about what kinds of technology might survive a post-apocalyptic future, how people might adapt to a threatening environment, and what the world—at least our little part of it here in the US—would look like. I watched a ton of episodes of Doomsday Preppers, National Geographic specials on climate change and polar shifts, and Discovery channel episodes about high tech medical advances and space travel. My husband, having worked for thirty years as a space suit engineer and shuttle technician gave me invaluable insights into technology and where it could lead us.

The truth is our doom could come from any direction. To survive we need to adapt, improvise and overcome—a military credo that my characters live by. In my story, I chose a viral plague that wipes out three quarters of the population and a polar shift that threatens the rest of humanity with extinction. I know—cheery thought, right? I figured Mother Nature strives to find balance, and the biggest threat to her survival is overpopulation. With seven billion people doing their darndest to greedily suck the life out of her, the earth is bound to fight back. What better equalizer than a virulent strain of a microscopic bug that kicks our collective butts to kingdom come. Oh, the irony! We think we’re so tough. But really that’s all it would take for our world to be tipped upside down. A bug!

Irony being one of my favorite nemesis (nemesis’s? nemeses?), I thought the plague a fitting end, since it wouldn’t discriminate against the poor, the rich, and everyone in between. With rampant terrorism and today’s global travel, a world-wide pandemic is not much of a stretch. For good measure, I added a slight polar shift (something that is already happening), that would force a level playing field for survivors. Money can’t buy you out of an earthquake, tsunami, or tornado. Of course, our scientists would step up to the challenge and eventually find a cure for the virus and a way to create barriers against the solar radiation that would slowly kill us all with cancer. They could conceivably figure out a way to make fetuses in the womb immune, but at what cost—‘cause you know there is always a cost to messing with nature.

In sixteen year-old Lily Carmichael’s case, she is born with the ability to heal very quickly and also to heal others. Now as far-fetched as that may sound, I am a healer, and I believe that with a slight boost to my energetic field, I could do exactly what Lily does. If you think me a tad frou-frou, you’ve never had work done by a really good energy worker. My day job as a Massage Therapist keeps me very busy. If you doubt my superpowers, just ask my clientsJ

Imagine Lily’s conflict, though, when her healing abilities don’t work on her beloved uncle who is dying of cancer and she must travel to the trading city of Albany to find a cure for Sam. To challenge Lily further, our young and beleaguered heroine has to keep her gift hidden from the Industry, a rogue government agency set on capturing these genetically enhanced teens. To complicate matters, her thirteen-year-old brother has an opposing ability that is even more valuable to the Industry. He can take life with just a touch. Add some teenage hormones and a murdered Industry agent and you’ve got a real dilemma for both Lily and her brother Zephron whom she has vowed to protect.

When seventeen-year-old drifter Will Callahan shows up and Lily rescues and heals him, her secret is bound to get out. As if Lily doesn’t have enough drama, she is forced to deal with her growing attraction to Will who has his own secrets that could lead them both into harm’s way. I added a couple of loveable wolves, some interesting secondary characters, and a ticking clock for humanity, and I must say the apocalypse is looking mighty interesting. But I say FEAR NOT…oohhh, the author goddess speaks…perhaps it will take someone just like Lily to save the world. As long as there is faith, hope, and love, we have a chance!

I had so much fun writing Zeph’s character, I had to give him his own voice by writing a short story prequel in his point of view, called SOUL REDEMPTION, which is part of the WG2E All for Indies Anthologies Spooky Edition. You don’t have to read the prequel to enjoy the trilogy, but it definitely gives a deeper appreciation for what Lily faces, and why the story unfolds as it does. It also gives you a peek into the conflicted and creepy mind of a would-be killer—the perfect addition to a spooky anthology.

In honor of All Hallows Eve and Super-storm Sandy, I’ll be gifting copies of the Anthology along with e-copies of WANING MOON today. I want to make sure you all have plenty of reading material to ride out the storm! I’ll be working on Book Two, WESTERN DESERT, set for release next summer…assuming there is a next summer. Keep the faith people!

Connecting to Readers through Wattpad – RG2E Featured Author PJ Sharon Shares How To Find New Authors

Welcome to The RG2E, Featured Author PJ Sharon!

Take it away, PJ…

Connecting to Readers through Wattpad

I’m very excited to be here today on the RG2E, and to show my appreciation to your readers I’ll be e-gifting a copy of HEAVEN IS FOR HEROES

to each of you who leaves a comment below. I wanted to share with your readers a great opportunity to connect to new authors and find some fun stories through a site called Wattpad. It’s awesome, and it’s FREE! You can find all kinds of stories there written by published authors as well as unpublished writers who just want to put their stories out in the world for people to read. Wattpad is an online community for readers and writers to get together and share their work, participate in contests, and join conversations through clubs and forums.

For authors, Wattpad is a place where you can offer readers a taste of your work. You can serialize or post one chapter at a time, as I’m doing each week with my YA romantic suspense novel, SAVAGE CINDERELLA, or you can put the whole book up for free viewing with the hopes that if readers like your book, they might just buy your others, similar to D.D. Scott’s “First one’s on me” promotion. I have a chapter of each of my books, ON THIN ICE and HEAVEN IS FOR HEROES up on my Wattpad page so that readers can get a preview of each of them before buying. Be sure to check back each week for new chapters of SAVAGE CINDERELLA

(there are currently 8 chapters posted), and stay tuned for the first chapter of my YA Dystopian, WANING MOON, set to release September 28th. I’ll be posting the chapter a week before the release to give readers a preview of Book One in THE CHRONICLES OF LILY CARMICHAEL trilogy.

I’ve heard from other authors that this site works especially well for young adult fiction since teens are voracious readers who don’t necessarily have much buying power. Wattpad is like a social network where they can read and “vote” for stories they like and spread the word to their Wattpad friends through “clubs.” One of my YA author buddies, Maree Anderson reached over 100,000 reads with her book FREAKS OF GREENFIELD HIGH, which was then optioned by a Canadian TV network, and is now in production as a television series there last I heard.

But Wattpad isn’t only for YA fiction or for published authors. There are adult books listed there as well, although with an R-rating, they may not garner as many readers since young adults are rightfully restricted from viewing those books and they seem to be the biggest demographic of Wattpad users. Budding writers also have an opportunity to post their stories. And you never know who is browsing. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that an agent or editor might discover a new author by reading an unknown but fabulous story on Wattpad. When you put your chapters or book up on Wattpad, there is a place to add key search words, a rating, and a description so that readers looking for a particular type of book will find exactly what they are looking for and will be more likely to become a fan. There is also the ability to list your work as either “public domain” or keep it  “All rights reserved” so no one can legally duplicate your work. If you are a reader, you can join Wattpad, create a profile and jump right into the flow of community by searching the clubs for conversations and books that might appeal to you. How cool is that?

So how about you? Have you checked out Wattpad? Would you follow along if you only got a chapter a week, or would you follow for a few weeks and then HAVE to buy the book to see what happens?
