RG2E Featured Author Laina Turner takes you through “A Day in the Glamorous Life of an Indie Epublished Author”

TGIF, RG2E Peeps!

Welcome to The RG2E and/or Welcome Back!!!

Ever wonder about “A Day in the Glamorous Life of an Indie Epublished Author”? Well, wonder no more! 🙂 Here’s RG2E Featured Author Laina Turner to give you her version…

When I started my career as an indie pub’d author a few years ago I had no idea it would be so wonderful. I was used to a normal middle class life and after publishing my first ebook I was thrown into this lifestyle that even today is sometimes unbelievable.

My day starts out at 5am when I wake up to find my personal trainer waiting in the home gym with a fresh strawberry and seaweed smoothie I drink for energy. I then suffer through a grueling workout keeping me in a fit body that would make Jennifer Aniston envious. I then proceed to the veranda where my chef prepares me a five star breakfast. I enjoy my breakfast while the nanny gets my kids fed and ready for school and I take a moment to give them a kiss before the nanny takes them to the bus stop. Once the house is quiet I make my way to my office where my assistant gives me my call sheet and to do list for the day. I effortlessly knock out 5000 words toward my next novel while my assistant makes a personal shopping appointment at Neiman Marcus for later that afternoon, I have a television interview I need a new outfit for.

The kids come home and we play for a bit before they head off to do their homework and dress for dinner. My chef prepares another fantastic gourmet meal, low-fat of course which we take in the formal dining room, and then the nanny takes the kids to get ready for bed while I enjoy a massage and facial to help my body recover from the long day. I then go tell my assistant she can go home as long as the tweets she was to schedule are completed and I head off to bed with a glass of wine and relax watching a Lifetime movie for women. A short eight hours later my alarm goes off and I start it all over again. It’s grueling but worth it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I would tell you what my day is really like but I wouldn’t want to bore you or scare you for that matter. Leave a comment below and get an Ebook Gift Copy of A Day in the Life of Trixie Pristine, and with your help maybe someday that will be my life. A girl can dream can’t she?

On Amazon , B&N Nook , Smashwords

Price: 99 Cents

In this short story prequel, Trixie and her friends Berklie and Sophie, considered themselves typical thirty something females until someone turned up murdered in their newly opened bookstore/wine bar. They thought they would be living out their dream in their new shop not trying to catch a killer. Who killed Sylvia and why? Or was one of them the intended target?

RG2E Featured Author Emma Calin takes us From Hot Pants to “Shorts”

Happy Weekend, RG2E Peeps!

Welcome to The RG2E and/or Welcome Back!

Today, we’re goin’ across the pond to chat with UK Author Emma Calin.

Take it away, Emma…

I think I was born at the end of the 45rpm music single era. Maybe this is why I have always been drawn to the uncluttered ristretto fix of the short story. The French tradition of “chanson” where the singer tells a one off account has also been a big influence on me. More than anything, the style of Edith Piaf relating situations from working class life moved me as a young woman and led me to learn French.

My story THE CHOSEN is the playing out of an incident involving a couple of penniless men trying to get by. Their relationship is complex and their attitudes very different. Off stage there is a love story that dictates the action. It is also an attempt to look hard at our contemporary values and pose some questions.

The text comes with a free audio track. I have always believed in the spoken word which for me has a greater vibrancy than print alone. Literacy for the masses has a very short history compared to that of the story told around the fire or in a public place. A natural length in terms of attention span is about twenty minutes and this is what I have tried to achieve. There is also the aspect of accent and dialect. I find it very difficult to read speech written in dialect. For this reason THE CHOSEN is written in plain English whereas in fact the two characters have very different accents. Essentially the text and audio versions are entirely different pieces of work. I have been able to call upon the poet Oscar Sparrow to do the recording since he is used to public performance. Personally I love the job he has done.

Much of my writing career has involved the commercial short story. My first novel KNOCKOUT! is an unashamed commercial romance. The success of my short SUB-PRIME both in terms of sales, prize winning and critical reception has always surprised me. It is a story from the neglected side of the slave labour market. Since I wrote it, many revelations have come to public attention and I believe I have profited from that.  THE CHOSEN is lighter but contains no artificial or idealised romance. In fact, it is because life is like it is that there is a huge joy in writing unapologetic escapist and sexy love stories.

Book Blurb: THE CHOSEN by Emma Calin

A woman, a man, a van and a plan. When the luck runs out; the lucky walk away. A short story set in the extremis of everyday.

Amazon 5* Reviews:

R. Stephen Woodfin  (East Texas)  – Why love drives you crazy

The Chosen is the second of Emma Calin’s short stories I have read. Both are jewels that come at life from the underside of the leaf. They are stories of ordinary, common people who hold to their dreams and reach for things beyond their grasp.  The Chosen is a story about unquenchable hope, ill-founded on a love sure to go bad. It is about hare-brained schemes, not thought-through, sure to fail.  The first sentence sums it up: “Of course, there had to be a woman in the story.”
Of course.  I also enjoyed Oscar Sparrow’s narration of the free audio version of the story available to purchasers of the book.
Highly recommended.

Sheryl S. Brown (UK) – An Absolute Gem!

What a little gem of a story. After a busy weekend (and having a migraine), I wanted something that would take my mind off my headache – and something I wouldn’t have to actually read. I chose The Chosen – a story about two rogues who are completely relatable to – one about to make the big time, one a realist, both with suspect backgrounds. Emma Calin’s characterisation is excellent – I could totally visualise this pair, right down to the look in their eyes. The dialogue, too, was spot on, completely believable, and the narration was perfect. Loved the twist at the end. The line about the origins of the book (not wishing to give too much away) made me chuckle. Gripping. Intriguing. In short, loved it!

About Emma:

Emma Calin was born in London in 1962. She currently lives in France and the UK.

She has been writing since childhood and has won numerous local, national and international prizes for poetry and short stories.

KNOCKOUT! A PASSIONATE POLICE ROMANCE is a love story set against a backdrop of international gambling corruption and deception. Interpol cop Anna Leyton finds herself torn between love and duty when her professional and private life intersects. A video teaser for this book is available in the right hand column of this author page, below the blog – it shows a scene from the trailer of a bedroom with the caption “desire consumes”. This book is now available in both paperback and Kindle formats.

SUB-PRIME is a prize-winning hard hitting short story about courage, exploitation and love. It is a raw and brutal exposé of life at the bottom in the aftermath of recession. Available in Kindle format which includes a downloadable audiobook

THE CHOSEN is the brand new short story which is being given away here on RG2E.  It is set in modern times where working people struggle to keep their dreams alive. A world where the promise of love motivates desperate measures. Available in Kindle format, which includes a downloadable audio track.

Author: Vickie Taylor

Price: 99 Cents

Explore the light and the dark sides of faith through two short stories by national bestselling author Vickie Taylor…

Faces in the Dark

Who knows what drives a man to madness? For Fred Tucker, it may be the simple random firing of overactive photoreceptor cells in his eyes—or his blind faith that nothing in this world is random. When Fred lies down to sleep, he sees faces. People he comes to believe are in danger. His descent into his own personal hell begins when he becomes obsessed with finding the people behind these faces, believing he must save them. And ends when he does find one, and accepts that he is no one’s savior, but something far more sinister.

Angel on My Shoulder

Seven-year-old Bethany’s secret wish is to be an angel in heaven. Her best friend Corey just wants to be like Bethany. Sadly, they may both get what they want.

Author Bio:

Vickie Taylor wrote her first novel in 1997. Upon completion, she was too chicken to give the manuscript to anyone she knew to read, so she sent her baby off to a few contests to get some anonymous feedback instead. Little did she know how her life was about to change: a few months later, she had won all four of the Romance Writers of America chapter contests she’d entered, was a Golden Heart finalist and had sold the book to Silhouette Intimate Moments!

Since then, Vickie has written numerous romantic suspense and paranormal romance novels for Midnight Ride Publishing, Silhouette Books and Berkley Sensation, garnering such recognition as the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence in Romantic Suspense, a four-and-a-half star “Top Pick” review in Romantic Times, and four coveted Romance Writers of America “Rita” nominations for her work. Although she still writes and loves romance, these days Vickie is spreading her creative wings into many other fiction genres.

Vickie lives in a small town in north Texas dubbed “The Heart of Horse Country” where she rounds out her writing days raising horses, volunteering with the local Humane Society, and serving on a K-9 search and rescue team.

Word Count: 17,700

It’s been a bad month for Tonya Garcia. After her beloved nonna died, her boyfriend’s only sympathy involved big plans for spending her inheritance. What was she doing with that skinny-legged jerk, anyway? Now that he’s out of the picture, Tonya needs a new start and with the help of a dartboard decides Willowdale, North Carolina is the place.
The move from the Big Apple to this hole in the wall isn’t as easy as she figured, though. On her first day in the tiny town, she gets a speeding ticket from a hot cop and a warning from the locals not to open a new beauty salon like she’d planned. The only saving grace is the chicken and biscuits at The Jelly Jar diner, a new friend desperate for a decent ‘do, and the police chief who might be interested in her for all the wrong reasons.
Can Tonya find new love and a new life? Or was her ex right—that she’ll be running back to him in New York?

This is the first short story in the Willowdale Romance series. Look for “A Little Hanky Panky” and “A Perfect Setup” this summer. Lisa’s first novel in the series, No Foolin’, will be released by Belle Bridge Books in November 2012.
